Introduction: A Modern Video‑Game Enthusiast
Actor David Dastmalchian is a passionate collector who has explored every corner of the video‑game world—from Galaga to Street Fighter consoles. His love for games is as vast as his experiences, and his latest project? A Commander deck that pays homage to the iconic Street Fighter universe.
The Concept: A Street Fighter‑Inspired Commander Deck
Commander’s legendary decks and unique mechanics make it an ideal format for a theme as iconic as Street Fighter. David plans to incorporate cards that represent characters, special moves, and even the game’s emblematic arenas.
The Key Elements of the Deck
Each card will be carefully selected to reflect its character’s essence: Ryu with a “Hadoken” effect, Zangief who can absorb damage, or Chun‑Li delivering swift blows. Arenas such as the Tokyo Ring or Street Fighter Arena would serve as terrains to boost actions.
Why This Deck Could Revolutionize Commander
By introducing a theme that’s so popular, David opens the door to a new audience—video‑game fans who have never touched MTG. The blend of nostalgia and strategy could energise the format.
The Impact on the MTG Community
Experienced players will encounter a new type of card, more action‑oriented than classic ones. This would encourage event organisers to host “Street Fighter Commander” nights and expand their participant base.
The Deck’s Creation: An Artistic Collaboration
David plans to work with artists specialised in video‑game illustration to create striking visuals for the cards. Each illustration will be directly inspired by the original sprites, ensuring instant recognition among fans.
- Original illustrations

- Balance between power and strategy
Community Engagement: A Collaborative Project
To finalise the deck, David intends to launch a crowdfunding campaign. Contributors will have the chance to receive exclusive cards or even help shape the final edition.
“The game is an adventure that never ends, and this deck is my way of sharing that passion with you.” – David Dastmalchian
